Simple Tradition of Giving Back
Deemed as simply “Pleasanton mothers who give back”, this story highlights how a small but meaningful gesture of generosity from a group of women in our community made a lasting impact on an Alameda County Fair institution.
The Story Behind the $100 Breakfast
Several years ago, a Pleasanton woman came across a Facebook post about a group that gathered each December for something they called a “$100 Breakfast.” The idea was simple. They would gather at a restaurant, order breakfast and each pay $100, no change given back.
This group chose breakfast intentionally because it is typically less expensive than any other meal service, which meant the tip could make an even bigger impact to the server or restaurant.
At a dinner with friends, she shared the story and asked if they wanted to help out and plan a $100 breakfast date of our own. They jumped at the chance. That first year, about 14 women gathered at a local restaurant and started what would become a yearly tradition. Since then, the group has chosen a different locally owned spot each year, keeping the focus on small businesses in their community.

Supporting a Local Fairgrounds Tradition
This year, the group chose Stable Cafe located at Gate 12 off Valley Avenue in Pleasanton.
When the group of ladies each presented their $100 dollars for our $230 bill, there was much gratitude and plenty of joyful tears!
The Power of Small Acts
One participant reminds us that the tradition is not complicated or grand. It is simply a group of women who wanted to give back in a way that felt personal and a little non-traditional. Many people support charities, but this fun gathering recognizes that there are so many in the restaurant business that need our help, too.
For the new owner of Stable Cafe, the visit left a lasting impression. She shared that the gesture came at the perfect time and reminded her why community matters so deeply in the restaurant industry.

Final Thoughts
Acts like this rarely make headlines. They do not ask for recognition. Yet they ripple outward in ways that are intangible but deeply impactful. In alliance with this year’s Women’s History Month theme, Give to Gain, these stories remind us that when women support their communities and each other, small acts of kindness can grow into powerful change.
